40th Anniversary Career Insight Seminar at VVU

Career Insight Seminars provide students with the opportunity to experience what it is like to work in a professional environment and learn about an organization’s structure and culture.

It is for this reason that the Valley View University as part for its 40th Anniversary, on Wednesday 20th November, 2019, held a Career Insight seminar at the Seth Laryea Multipurpose Center. At the gathering, Ms. Emmaline Datey, an alumnus of VVU and the Human Resource and Administrative Manager for EIB Network gave her seminar speech on what employers need from employees as the world changes technologically.

Ms. Datey spoke about her journey as a student and how she overcame her challenges – arithmetic courses - in her undergraduate programme. According to her, she had a cordial relationship with Lecturers, the Students and the entire Valley View University community. She urged students studying Bachelor of Science in Development Studies to take their studies serious and to also attend Programme-based Fellowships as it gives them the opportunity to explore.

Ms. Datey stated that students need to ‘up their game’ and to be able to stand tall in all aspects of their lives. “The world is changing technologically, and we must be abreast with it” she said and I quote.

She emphasized the need for students to start looking for their jobs by taking leadership roles, volunteering jobs, NGOs, association, etc. as they pursue their respective degrees. She stated that Human Resource Managers want resourceful persons and critical thinkers to help build organizations.

She said, I quote “persons who critically think are always above their bosses and such people are needed by employers as the world changes every now and then”. Ms. Datey, indicated that, “beggars” are not needed on the job market but rather survivors. She urged students to be humble, join learning groups and build good Student-Lecturer relationship with their Lecturers for easy recommendations in the future.

Students were later grouped into sessions after Ms. Datey’s presentation, according to their respective Faculties and Schools where their facilitators took them through motivational speeches, encouragement, questions and answers.

Gracing the event, was the VVU Basic School Cultural group that displayed a wonderful performance in choreography and cultural.

Some persons who have contributed immensely to the development of the University were awarded citations.

In attendance was Pr. Prof Daniel Kwame Bediako, Vice Chancellor, VVU, some Faculty members, Deans, HODs and the students of Valley View University.
