A team of health professionals from Germany, USA, and Ghana have  paid a working visit to the Kumasi Campus of Valley View University to inspect the progress of work on a Dental Clinic which is the result of collaborative efforts between Valley View University and United Services to Africa (USTA).

The visiting team included the  Vice chair of the University Council, Officers of the Northern Ghana Union Mission, the Registrar of the University, the Director of Ghana Adventist Health Services, members of the project committee, well wishers, as well as other health professionals in Kumasi and from outside Ghana.

After a situational report by Mr. Kingsley Young, the project manager, the team of visitors went round and inspected the project.

Following the inspection, the team appraised the project. After the critical evaluation, it was announced that the project would be commissioned in three months, subject to the realization of at least $15, 000 for the completion of the project.

The operational system of the Clinic was also discussed with the USTA team promising to give it’s support to whatever direction the University chooses.

On their part, USTA promised to work hard to provide the needed funding to complete the Clinic on time.

Speaking on behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor, the Registrar expressed the University Management’s desire for the Clinic to be completed in due time for operations to begin.

 The Vice Chair of the University Council,  Dr. Kwame Kwanin Boakye, expressed his appreciation to the team and charged the Rector to make the project yield positive results.

 The Rector , Dr. Winfred  Ofoe Larkotey accepted the challenge and prayed for the support of all.

The Rector of the Campus, on his part, thanked all stakeholders who have contributed in diverse ways to make the project a success.

So far, contributions for the project have come from VVU, USTA, the Northern Ghana Union Mission, and from the Schiopu brothers who donated all the Dental equipment for this project.

The University Council has decided to name the Dental Clinic after the two brothers, Doctors Rene and Eugene Schiopu who have contributed massively to the project. The Dental Clinic will therefore be called the “Schiopu Dental Clinic”.

Dr Rene Schiopu, who was accompanied by his wife on the visit accepted the honour done him and his brother and pledged to work harder to ensure that the Clinic becomes one of a kind in West Africa, providing rare dental services to clients.

The team subsequently went to Feyiase to inspect other projects of the University.

The team will be in Ghana for two weeks on a Medical Mission tour of some Adventist Hospitals. During this period, free surgeries will be conducted and consultations provided to various patients.

The team members  of USTA who visited Ghana are all doctors from Germany, USA and Zimbabwe. They included Dr Rene Schiopu, a dental surgeon; Dr Rene’s wife, a nutritionist; Dr Kwame Agyeman, a family medicine practitioner based in Loma Linda, USA, and the  President of  USTA.

Dr Paul Yeboah, a retired medical practitioner in the USA, a board member of USTA and a Philanthropist; and Dr Patience Monde, a dentist from Harare; made up the rest of the team.
