On November 9, 2024, Valley View University marked its 32nd graduation ceremony with a combined Baccalaureate and Retirees service, bringing together moments of spiritual reflection and celebrating excellence within its community. The service included the Sabbath School session and a series of awards highlighting the achievements of students and staff. Twelve students from the Oyibi, Techiman and Kumasi campuses were honoured for their exemplary behaviour and contribution to the growth of the institution. At the same time, four university choir members received certificates for their dedication and service. Additionally, the University recognised ten retirees who contributed significantly to VVU’s beginnings and development through their commitment and service.
The guest speaker for the Baccalaureate, Prof. Dr. Chunsik Park, a retired professor from the Graduate School of Theology at Sahmyook University in Seoul, South Korea, delivered an inspiring sermon. Prof. Park, who first visited Valley View University in 2007, expressed his gratitude for the meaningful friendships he had formed and shared a message rooted in faith and community.
Following the Baccalaureate service, the University’s School of Graduate Studies hosted a distinguished PhD hooding ceremony and banquet at the Boluwatife Hall to honour the achievements of its PhD graduands. Vice-Chancellor Professor William Kofi Koomson congratulated the eight PhD graduands from the Business Administration programme, with four specialising in accounting, two in finance and two in management. He encouraged them to uphold the University’s values of Excellence, Integrity and Service in their future careers. Prof. Koomson addressed the graduates with a message of resilience and motivation, emphasising their responsibility as alumni to uphold integrity, service, and excellence as representatives of a Seventh-day Adventist institution. His closing words, “Whatever it takes, be inspired to face future challenges with determination and resilience,” resonated with the audience. Dr. Yeboah Edward, representing the graduating class, expressed gratitude to friends, supervisors, and families for their unflinching support and pledged to contribute their quota towards the development of their alma mater.
The celebrations culminated on November 10, 2024, with the graduation ceremony, held under the theme “Equipped for Service: Leading with Excellence and Integrity.” This year, 820 graduates received certificates for various programmes in pride, with a call on them for dedicated service. Vice-Chancellor Professor William Koomson acknowledged the contributions that had helped propel the University forward, including a donation of 250,000 cedis and a $50,000 ambulance from Mr Thomas Svanikier, who pledged operational support for two years. Mr Svanikier also donated 100,000 cedis for the Ga and Ga-Dangbe Girls Scholarship scheme. Honourable Kwame Osei-Prempeh, an immediate past honoree Causa recipient of the University, was recognised for donating a 65-seater bus to the Kumasi Campus, while the North American Seventh-day Adventist Church provided books and $30,000 for the NASDA Hall project.
The ceremony featured special guests, including Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, representing Education Minister Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. Dr. Nkansah encouraged the graduates to view their degrees as foundations for lifelong learning, urging adaptability and a spirit of curiosity. Other high-profile personalities in attendance included Honourable Cecilia Abena Dapaah, former Ghanaian Minster of Sanitation.
The ceremony concluded with valedictorian Boateng Raymond Kwaku, who was awarded the title of the overall best student, expressed profound gratitude to university staff and families. His speech celebrated the collective efforts that contributed to this milestone and served as a reminder of the values of integrity and service that each graduate would carry forward into their professional lives.
The event was a meaningful blend of reflection, recognition and motivation, underscoring the University’s commitment to empowering graduates equipped to lead with excellence, integrity and service, emulating the spirit of the pioneers.
